floydius it's almost like you've got nothing better to do

baby come back. please?

If you’ve talked to me over the last year or so, you know that I’ve developed an unhealthy addiction to one of the best shows ever created, Home Movies (thanks, Beu). Unfortunately, it ended after four short seasons. It used to run regularly on Adult Swim, and now it appears maybe fortnightly, and then only around 4:30am or some crazy hour like that.

Last night I was feeling particularly sad that there weren’t more episodes for me to memorize, so I went a’googling. I already knew there was a dedicated fan base that discusses the show over at the AS discussion boards. I also knew there was a fan site (there are several more). What I didn’t know was that Shout! Factory had considered commissioning some new episodes back in late 2006. The thread on which they mentioned that possibility is still attracting comments.

I dutifully left my own rabid plea, and wondered what else could be done. I looked up Soup2Nuts, who also produced another well-recognized show, Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist. Jody (their PR person? president?) listed an e-mail address, and so I sent a short inquiry to see what the chances are of my beloved show ever making a comeback. To my glee, less than 24 hours later I received the following response:

Thanks so much for your kind message. Unfortunately, it is the decision of Adult Swim and Cartoon Network. They are making the decision. We would also like to see it back on. Thanks, jody

My interpretation of this message is that everyone who reads this blog (both of you) should inundate Cartoon Network with e-mails politely groveling for the return of a fantastic show. If you’ve never seen Home Movies, I suggest you give it a try. It’s well worth your time.
